The age-old question: Waxing vs. Shaving. Consider waxing because it actually lasts much longer than shaving, it pulls the hairs from the root – no stubble and your skin is so smooth! It is very important to avoid shaving between waxing appointments. Shaving will stimulate the hair growth again. With waxing you will not have cuts and nicks that often come with shaving. Also, with regular waxing your new hair will become finer and grow slower!
Most areas on the body can be waxed, as long as the hair will allow. Such as the eyebrows, upper lip, chin, arms, back, chest, stomach, legs, bikini area, and the genital area.
Be sure you have at least a 1/4 inch of hair growth, 1/2 inch for course hair. That is about a week to 2 weeks of hair growth after shaving. Exfoliating with a loofah or exfoliating gloves the day before waxing is suggested for less pain at the appointment. If it’s your first time please let us know and we will walk you through every step at the appointment.
Hairless skin! Everyone’s skin reacts differently to waxing, typically you can expect to have temporary redness and minor irritation for a day or two. Try to avoid heavy exercise that will increase perspiration and chaffing for about 24-48 hours after waxing.
This depends on what you are getting waxed, and how much hair is present. An appointment can take from about 15-20 minutes (eye brows) to an hour or more (several areas).
The pain associated with waxing differs from person to person and their genetic makeup. One person may have several nerve endings in one area, while another may not. If you have a sensitive skin, remember that any pain is very minor and very temporary.
Regular waxing is essential. For many that is every 4-6 weeks. The skin will be less sensitive and the hair becomes finer if waxing is done every four weeks.
Again, this depends on the person and their genes. But usually waxing lasts from 4 to 8 weeks. Which is much longer than shaving which may only last up to a day.
Exfoliate alternating with a loofah and exfoliating gloves. If you are more prone to ingrown hairs, also use a topical exfoliant.
This is actually a myth. The hair grows back much slower, finer, and more scarce than before. If you wax often enough, the hair will barely be in the area.
Yes! Some physicians do not recommend waxing for those with diabetes or who have varicose veins or poor circulation as they are more susceptible to infection. Waxing is never done on clients taking Accutane and is not recommended for clients using Retin A, Renova, Differin or other types of skin thinning acne medications. Please read the label carefully and consult your dermatologist if you are taking any medication or using any topical cream that contains these medications. Individuals do react differently to these medications and sometimes waxing can be done if proper patch testing is completed.
“Also, please advise your esthetician if you are allergic to any foods – because if you can’t eat it, you shouldn’t put the extracts on your skin. Please be completely honest with your Skin Care Therapist about all allergies and medications you are taking – it is for your protection.”
Breathe and relax! Waxing is super quick and speedy. Keep the waxed area protected from direct sunlight for 12 hours, no hot baths, hot tubs, or community pools for 24 hours.
